Folha do Meio Ambiente

A melhor apresentação entre duas pessoas vai além do tradicional muito prazer. O importante, mesmo, é sintonizar a freqüência dos corações. Assim, de um encontro convencional pode nascer muito bem uma nova e grande amizade.
Um dos problemas do competitivo mundo atual é justamente que parece faltar tempo para tudo, até para fazer amigos. Se se faz um amigo por qualquer conveniência, acabada a conveniência que originou o encontro, fica mais difícil ainda manter a amizade.
Nestes 15 anos fazendo a Folha do Meio Ambiente, tive a graça de fazer grandes amizades. E o interessante: amizades de pessoas que conheci pessoalmente e amizades de pessoas que nunca vi. Nem em fotografia. Meu impulso de começar essa carta, falando de amizade, amigo leitor, foi por um motivo muito simples: três pessoas – leitores do jornal – têm correspondido comigo e sempre estão escrevendo para dizer alguma coisa, para falar de seus projetos e até mesmo para dar algum incentivo. Nessa edição, na sessão de cartas, tem duas delas que vale a pena lê-las. A primeira é de uma menina maravilhosa, de 11 anos, que sempre está escrevendo para contar sobre seus estudos, suas leituras e sobre como ela utiliza o jornal para fazer seus trabalhos na sala de aula “e ganhar elogios da professora”. Maria Cecília Siqueira Cezário, em cada carta que escreve, motiva ainda mais a gente a continuar fazendo o jornal.
Outra carta que tocou profundamente todos aqui da redação foi a do Rogério Pereira Pinto que, pagando uma pena de prisão na Papuda, em Brasília, escreveu primeiro para pedir uma coleção do jornal para estudar porque queria ser um engenheiro ambiental. Depois para agradecer e dizer que estudou as reportagens, fez vestibular e passou na Universidade Católica de Brasília. Agora, se o juiz deixar, vai cumprir sua pena em regime semi-aberto para poder iniciar seu curso.
Quero lembrar, ainda, a delicadeza intelectual e orquidófila do joinvillense Jurandir Schmidt, que não mede esforço para fazer o seu Entre Amigos, uma publicação despretensiosa e agradabilíssima que mantem unidos colecionadores de orquídeas. Jurandir Schmidt sempre que manda seu Entre Amigos tem uma palavra a mais de afeto e carinho.
Parece que conheço a todos há muitos anos. Talvez, por isso mesmo, os vejo em cada palavra que escrevo. Sinceramente, esse é o melhor pagamento pelo meu trabalho. Como é bom ter dentro da gente um canto aberto e livre para dar lugar às considerações de nossos amigos.
Mas, uma última lembrança: fazer amigos é sempre mais fácil do que conservar as amizades. Por isso, caro leitor, vale lembrar a sabedoria desse provérbio africano, “a amizade é um caminho que desaparece na areia, se não se pisa constantemente nele”.

SUMMARY

Dear reader
The best introduction for two people can go far beyond the traditional “nice to meet you.” What is really important is the meeting of the minds of two people.   That way a new and significant friendship can bloom from even a normal get-together.  
One of the problems in today’s competitive world is that there does not seem to be enough time to do everything, not even to make friends.  If you make a friend from an opportune situation, once the situation that brought about the meeting is over, it is even more difficult to continue the friendship.  
In the 15 years that we have been doing the Folha do Meio Ambiente, I have had the privilege of making good friends.  What is interesting is that I have made friends of people that I have met personally and friends of people that I have never seen – not even a photograph.  My reason for beginning this letter by talking about friendship, dear reader, was simple – three people, readers of this paper, have corresponded with me and always write to tell me something, to talk about their projects and even provide some kind of encouragement. 
In this edition, in the letters from the editor section, there are two of them which are worthwhile reading.  The first one is from a wonderful little girl, 11 years old, who always writes to tell me about her studies, her reading and about how she uses the paper in her school projects “and get praise from the teacher.”  Maria Cecília Siqueira Cezário encourages us even more to continue writing this paper with every letter she writes. 
Another letter writer who has touched everyone on the staff deeply was from Rogério Pereira Pinto who is serving a prison sentence in Papuda, in Brasília, who first wrote us to ask for back copies of the paper to study because he wanted to become an environmental engineer.  Afterwards he continued writing us to thank us and tell us that he had studied the stories and passed the entrance exams at the Universidade Católica de Brasília. Now, with the approval of the judge, he will serve out his sentence in a semi incarceration regime so that he can begin his schooling.  
I also remember the elegant intellect of the orchid specialist from the town of Joinville, who works tirelessly to put out his unpretentious and very enjoyable “Entre Amigos” or “Among Friends” newsletter which brings together orchid collectors.  Jurandir Schmidt, whenever he sends his “Entre Amigos”, always has a warm and friendly word for us. 
It seems like I’ve known all of them for years.  Maybe that is the reason I see them in each word I write.  Sincerely this is the best form of payment for my work.  It’s really good to keep inside us a free and open corner to carry the thoughts of our friends. 
Also one more reminder:  it’s always easier to make friends than keep friendships.  This is why, dear reader, it is worthwhile remembering the wisdom of this African proverb, “Friendship is a trail which disappears in the sand if you do not constantly walk along it.”
