Folha do Meio Ambiente

Em tempo de início da Primavera e de Dia da Árvore no Centro-Sul do Brasil, nada melhor do que abrir essa carta falando da natureza, tanto a vegetal como a humana. No último editorial, sensibilizado por algumas cartas, acabei por falar da amizade. Agora, encantado com uma mensagem que me chegou pela internet, vamos misturar as duas coisas: árvore e amizade.
Os verdadeiros amigos nunca nos dão as costas. São como as árvores que nunca ficam de costas para ninguém. Todos podem dar volta em torno dela e ela sempre estará de frente.
A amizade plantada com amor, no dizer dos chineses, é como uma árvore frondosa de muitas raízes. Não há vento que a derrube.
Plantar e cultivar amizades, como plantar e cultivar árvores, acabam por produzir as mesmas coisas: colheita farta de sementes de solidariedade, alegria das flores, sombra refrescante e um bom lugar para se encostar…
As árvores, como os amigos, produzem beleza para os olhos e para os ouvidos, na sutil mudança de suas cores e humores…
Uma bela árvore é sinônimo de eternidade… Uma verdadeira amizade também é para sempre.

Corredores Ecológicos – Esse é um projeto ambicioso que está sendo desenvolvido no Paraná. Objetivo: proteger e recuperar a biodiversidade. Como? Criando corredores biológicos para interligar todos remanescentes florestais, como reservas, parques, Áreas de Preservação Permanente, matas ciliares, encostas e topos de morros, Reservas Particulares do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) e estações ecológicas. A Água e a Meteorologia – Em entrevista, o professor Raymundo Garrido mostra como o ciclo hidrológico é um gigantesco percurso que a água faz pela evaporação, pelo condensamento, pelas chuvas, depois escoando e se infiltrando no solo para novamente evaporar-se.  Páginas 20 a 23
Política Nacional de Saneamento Ambiental – Está cada vez mais difícil um acordo entre estados e municípios, pois uma verdadeira guerra de siglas está envolvendo o ante-projeto de lei, prolongando um impasse de quase dois anos.  Página 28

Voltando à importância das árvores, à beleza da primavera e ao valor das amizades, eu diria, apenas, que tudo isso não passa de mais um milagre da vida.

Dear reader
In keeping with the beginning of Spring and Tree Day in the South Central region of Brazil, there is nothing to do but begin   this letter by discussing nature both mother nature and human nature.  In my last letter I spoke about friendship, having been moved by a number of readers? letters.  Now, captivated by an e-mail message I have received, I want to intermingle the two subjects – trees and friendship. 
True friends never turn their backs on us.  Friends are like trees that turn their backs to no one.  Any person who walks around a tree will forever be facing it.  
Friendship grounded in love, according to the Chinese saying, is like a shade tree with many roots.  There is no wind that can uproot it.
Planting and cultivating friendships can be compared to planting and taking care of trees, they both produce the same results:  a bumper crop of the seeds of solidarity, the joy of flowers, a refreshing shade and a good place to lean…
Trees, like friends, produce beauty to the eyes and the ears, in the subtle change of colors and moods…
A beautiful tree is synonymous with eternity…  A true friendship is forever.
In addition to the article about Tree Day which is on page 7, there are other important topics included in this issue and it would be worth your while to pay close attention to them:
Ecological Corridors – This ambitious project is being developed in the state of Paraná for the dual purpose of protecting and recovering biodiversity.  How?  Biological corridors are being created to connect the remaining forest such as reserves, parks, Áreas de Preservação Permanente (Areas of Permanent Preservation) (woodlands, hillsides and peaks), Reservas Particulares do Patrimônio Nacional -RPPN (National Heritage Private Reserves) and ecological stations.   Pages 8 and 9.
National Forest in Paraíba State – We will become acquainted with the Mata da Amem, which is today known as the   Floresta do Cabedelo.  In addition to the rich biodiversity being threatened, Cemave and the Wild Animal Triage Center operate in the area.  P ages 14 and 15
Speleology – Beauty, peculiarities and serious problems depict the Parque Estadual de Terra Ronca (Terra Ronca State Park), in Goiás, where the land snores, the waters sing and nature seduces.   Pages 16, 17 and 18
Water and Meteorology – Professor Raymundo Garrido demonstrates how water follows the course in one gigantic cycle, in which water is produced from evaporation, condensation and rain, which after being strained by and infiltrated into the soil is once again evaporated.   Pages from 20 to 23
Environmental Sanitation National Policy – It is becoming continually more difficult to reach an agreement with the States and the Municipalities, because a true war concerning acronyms is being waged involving the Draft Bill, extending the nearly two-year long impasse.   Page 28 

Returning to the importance of trees, the beauty of spring and the value of friendship, I would say that all of this is no more than the miracle of life.
